Audi A6 Options are Audi’s answer to a question enthusiasts keep asking: where did the S6 go? The mid-size S6 was retired at the end of the 2025 model year, leaving a noticeable hole in the lineup. Now a $14,700 Sport Plus package promises to fill it.
Audi A6 Options Chase the S6
Audi’s logic is brutally simple. Keeping the S6 between the standard A6 and the RS6 duplicated engineering spend while the brand pushed electrification. The C9 generation did not need it, so the axe fell.
Audi’s engineering priorities now look a lot like its lighting strategy, with digital Matrix LED headlights getting more attention than legacy trims. The Sport Plus package adds a torque-vectoring rear differential and lowers the suspension by 0.8 inches. Even so, the package is an answer to a market gap, not a full S6 replacement.

Meanwhile, the Sport Plus adds Nappa leather seats, dark chrome exhaust tips, and a sportier steering wheel. According to Audi, the package sits at the top of the A6 range for performance buyers. Ultimately, it is a comfortable cruiser with teeth.
Where the Sport Plus Falls Short
On paper, the A6 Sport Plus closes much of the gap. In reality, the old S6 carried a firmer suspension, a beefier brake system, and a more aggressive exhaust. Its twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 with hybrid assist produced 444 horsepower and 442 lb-ft.
Still, Audi claims the A6 Sport Plus reaches 60 mph only a tenth of a second slower. That sounds close, but the S6 felt more committed through fast bends. The Sport Plus keeps the softer springs of the base car, so it never fully shakes off its cruiser roots.
The Used S6 Wins Out
For shoppers chasing an S6 feel, the used market offers a sharper answer. Examples from 2023, some in Prestige trim, sell near $50,000 with roughly 30,000 miles. That undercuts a new A6 Sport Plus by about $30,000.
You also get more power and a hardened chassis, with none of the running costs of an S8 V10. Our prediction: well-kept 2023 S6 examples will become enthusiast favorites as the last mid-size Audi with a proper S badge.
Final verdict? If performance is your priority, the used S6 makes the smarter buy. The Sport Plus suits daily driving and occasional fun, but it is not a true successor.
