The Dodge Durango Hellcat has found a new day job. Texas Department of Public Safety’s North Texas Region has taken delivery of a blacked-out example, and it carries more firepower than a standard Lamborghini Aventador. Still, the real question is whether this SUV patrols the highway or simply poses for photos.
Dodge Durango Hellcat Hits Texas Patrol
Dodge introduced the SRT Hellcat for the 2021 model year, then dropped it just 12 months later. Its 2023 return turned the trim into the flagship for an aging SUV. In August 2025, Dodge ditched the naturally aspirated V6 and consolidated the lineup around V8s. For several months, CARB rules sidelined the 6.4-liter and Hellcat models in 17 states until engineers updated the calibration.
Exotic police cars are a Dubai specialty, where a Lamborghini Temerario joins the patrol fleet in bold colors. Texas takes a quieter approach. Black paint, ghosted graphics, a black bull bar, and flashing blue and red lights do the talking.

Patrol Car or Community Showpiece
Texas authorities have not confirmed whether this Dodge will chase suspects or work community events. If it becomes a showpiece, it joins a long list of high-end cruisers built to strengthen ties with local residents. With a burbling supercharged V8 and 710 horsepower, the Durango is a guaranteed crowd pleaser.
On paper, a 710-horsepower family hauler is a formidable pursuit tool. In reality, a police Dodge Durango Hellcat works best as a recruiting poster. Expect used examples to hold their value, because enthusiasts will hunt for every surviving Hellcat before the platform retires.
