The Alpine A110 Electric is coming, and the story is bigger than a simple battery swap. In a recent interview, Alpine UK boss Nicola Burnside revealed that the underlying platform could support a petrol engine. Even so, the EV remains the clear priority.
Alpine A110 Electric Platform Goes Flexible
“The platform can take many different combinations, it’s really flexible,” Burnside explained. The Alpine Performance Platform, known as APP, is designed to accept several powertrain layouts. For a small sports car maker, shared architecture spreads development costs across multiple variants.
The Alpine A110 Electric is targeting a weight ceiling of 1,500 kg, firmly in lightweight territory. Its low-slung stance echoes the outgoing petrol model. Sports cars like the Toyota MR2 prove that mass discipline matters as much as raw power.

Give the Electric Version a Chance
Burnside’s argument is simple: drive the Alpine A110 Electric before demanding a combustion alternative. Instant torque and a low center of gravity could produce a sharp, planted chassis. Still, a 1,500 kg target leaves little room for battery mass creeping upward.
Ultimately, a petrol A110 remains speculation rather than strategy. Alpine says its immediate focus stays firmly on EVs. Auto News Magazine will track every official update as development progresses.
