Jaguar Type 01 naming logic has now reached the racetrack. Jaguar TCS Racing has revealed the name of its next Formula E car, and it is the Jaguar I-Type 08. The machine arrives for the championship’s GEN4 era from the 2027 season, and the name tells its own story.

Jaguar Type 01 Sets the Blueprint
Jaguar’s earlier racers carried the all-caps I-TYPE badge, from the original I-TYPE 1 to the team’s most successful challenger, the I-TYPE 7. The new car drops the capitals and adds a leading zero. Ultimately, that brings it into line with the recently revealed Jaguar Type 01, a move that signals a unified design language across the brand’s electric portfolio.
Even so, the naming shift is more than a typographic tidy-up. Jaguar’s electric road cars have leaned heavily on bold, Sugar Design SUV concept territory, and the racer now sits in the same family. On paper, that consistency matters for brand recognition, especially as Formula E becomes a showcase for road-going powertrain tech.

Madrid Testing Puts the Name to Work
Formula E’s official pre-season test takes place at the Circuito de Madrid Jarama, running from Nov 16 to 20. That is where the I-Type 08 will make its first public outing. Engineers will push the car’s energy management and thermal cooling loops hard, and the data will shape the GEN4 development path.
Still, the real test is whether the new car can match the I-Type 7’s pace while absorbing the regulatory shifts of GEN4. Teams have been chasing peak charging plateau efficiency and silicon-carbide inverter performance for seasons, and Jaguar cannot afford a slow start. Full technical details are available from Jaguar.
Why the Naming Switch Matters
Consistent naming may look trivial, but it reflects a deliberate brand strategy. Jaguar is betting that its electric identity will be read as one continuous story, from the racetrack to the showroom. In reality, collectors and enthusiasts will likely remember the I-Type 08 as the first Jaguar racer built to share the road car’s name logic.
Ultimately, the I-Type 08 looks like a clean statement of intent. Jaguar Type 01 and its racing sibling now speak the same language, and that cohesion will be hard for rivals to ignore.
