Rimac Nevera thrusters were never a fantasy scribbled on a napkin. Speaking in a social media video, Mate Rimac admitted that flying hypercars have occupied his thinking since 2019, and the timing could not be sweeter.
Tesla’s Roadster recently stunned the internet with its cold-gas thruster setup, and Rimac’s response carries real engineering weight.
Rimac Nevera thrusters, Shelved Not Scrapped
According to ROADANDTRACK.COM, Rimac dug up a 2019 email titled “Static downforce.” It drew inspiration from the 1978 Brabham BT46B, whose rear fan pulled air from beneath the chassis. Few road cars chase physics this aggressively, far removed from the plush isolation of a 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS600.
| ⚙️Engine / Powertrain | Quad Electric Motors (Nevera base) |
| 🐎Power Output | 1,914 HP |
| ⚡Peak Torque | 2,300 Nm (1,696 lb-ft) |
| ⏱️0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) | 0-60 mph in 1.9s |
| 🚀Top Speed | 258 mph (415 km/h) |
| 🔄Drivetrain / Gearbox | AWD / Single-Speed Reduction |
| 💰Starting Price / Est. | $2,100,000 (est.) |
Then came the real prize. Rimac later confirmed a 2020 study to fit cold thrusters to the Nevera successor, promising a sub-one-second 0-60 mph launch. Rimac rarely speaks this openly, and the admission is refreshing.
Work stopped once the Bugatti V-16 demanded attention. Juggling Rimac and Bugatti left no spare bandwidth, so both concepts were parked.
Engineering Purity Versus Pure Theater
Still, I admire the restraint. Thrusters look spectacular in a render, but a chassis must earn its composure over mid-corner kerbs. Biting front-end grip and honest steering feedback matter more than a brief moment of levitation.
Even so, the idea is a reminder of what makes hypercars exciting. Rimac’s willingness to explore extremes keeps the category alive. At the same time, his sprint target shows the pursuit of raw acceleration has not faded.
Why Collectors Should Watch This Story
Ultimately, Rimac Nevera thrusters remain a concept, not a production reality. Still, the documented history adds intrigue for collectors. Early Nevera examples could gain value as the brand’s most ambitious what-if chapter comes to light. Visit Auto News Magazine for more deep dives into the hypercar world.
