Zeekr's European CEO explains how China speed, Super Hybrid tech and local R&D aim to challenge BMW and Mercedes.
Zeekr corporate strategy takes aim at BMW and Mercedes in Europe official exterior hero view
🚀 Key Takeaways:
• Zeekr wants European buyers to choose it over Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.
• The 7GT shooting brake was engineered in Europe, not imported unchanged.
• Plans call for 200+ active dealers plus 100 service dealers across Europe.

Zeekr corporate strategy is aimed squarely at the heart of German premium motoring. Geely’s premium arm, Zeekr, wants European shoppers to cross-shop it against Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. At this year’s Paris Motor Show, European CEO Lothar Schupet, a 23-year BMW veteran, explained the pitch.

Zeekr corporate strategy, European soul

Schupet describes the approach as “the power of a giant with a European soul.” Access to platforms, supply chains, and China’s development speed gives the brand real leverage. Through its Volvo ties, Zeekr runs research and development operations in Sweden, Germany, and the UK.

Rather than shipping the 007 sedan unchanged, engineers built the 7GT shooting brake in Europe. Europeans need a wagon, and Zeekr answered with a sharp, sleek silhouette. On efficiency, buyers will still benchmark it against rivals like the BMW iX3, so the numbers must back up the styling.

Driving dynamics form the biggest localization job. European buyers prioritize cornering, damping, and suspension tuning, while Chinese customers lean toward safety systems. Schupet’s team is reworking throttle mapping and chassis calibration accordingly.

Super Hybrid as a bridge

Zeekr’s Super Hybrid system works like an EREV, with an electric motor driving the wheels and a combustion engine onboard for longer trips. Still, it is a clever transitional tool. Luxury buyers who distrust full EVs can experience electric driving first, then move on to a pure EV later.

Dealer expansion still a grind

Zeekr targets more than 200 active dealers and 100 service dealers in Europe. Schupet says the brand is signing 10 to 15 dealers each week. Germany, France, and the UK will take longer, because established rivals own those markets.

Can Zeekr truly rattle Germany?

Ultimately, the engineering case is solid. Service quality, however, will decide whether buyers stay loyal. Auto News Magazine will track whether Zeekr converts its speed advantage into real showroom traffic. Follow our coverage for the next chapter.
