Hyundai Genesis Magma arrives just as the global supercar arms race turns electric. Tesla is floating its next-generation Roadster on cold-gas thrusters, while Porsche previews a mid-engine halo above the 911. Hyundai’s answer is less theatrical, but it carries real intent.
Hyundai Genesis Magma Brings Track Pedigree to Electric
Genesis’ first high-performance production car is the Genesis GV60 Magma. Built on the compact GV60 SUV, it rides Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated E-GMP platform. Its electric drivetrain delivers instant torque that rewards a committed right foot.
Launched earlier this year in a single trim, it sits in Genesis’ expanding performance lineup. Reminiscent of the Genesis Magma GT concept, the production car keeps the sub-brand’s aggressive stance. Purists should still reserve judgment until the steering feedback is proven on a real circuit.

Magma Finds Its Place Among Giants
Against the Ferrari Luce and its 772 kW output, the Magma looks modest on paper. Still, that restraint is the point. Hyundai Genesis Magma targets driver engagement over headline numbers, an approach that feels refreshingly honest.
Curb weight remains the enemy of apex speed, and electric hardware always fights that battle. Watch for chassis composure over mid-corner kerbs, brake fade on repeated laps, and whether the steering talks back. Official details are available from Genesis.
My bold prediction: early examples will become collector curiosities within a few years. Limited Korean performance hardware rarely depreciates quickly, especially when the handling lives up to the badge. Mechanical purity, not spec sheet bragging, will decide that verdict.
Ultimately, the Magma proves Korea can build a driver’s car as well as a sales leader. Read more performance analysis on Auto News Magazine.
