Shelby<\/strong> GT500KR<\/strong> Designed by Rostislav Prokop<\/a>. In 1968, the GT500<\/strong> was getting some major improvements, namely the engine going to the new 428 Cobra Jet<\/strong>. In a meeting with Le Iacocca<\/strong>, Ford Division General Manager<\/strong>, Lee mentioned to Carroll that they had recently caught wind that Chevrolet<\/strong> was going to name their new Corvette<\/strong> the \u201cKing of the Road\u201d. Carroll<\/strong> thought to himself that he always wanted to use that name and immediately called his trade dress lawyer, asking him to quickly find out if \u201cKing of the Road\u201d was taken. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"GT500KR\"<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Turns out it wasn\u2019t, Carroll<\/strong> and his team immediately dubbed the new GT500<\/strong> the Shelby<\/strong> GT500KR<\/strong> for \u201cKing of the Road\u201d and successfully filed a trade dress for the name. A limited amount of GT500KRs<\/strong> were made in 1968<\/strong> and are some of the most sought after collector Mustangs in existence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
