Ford is pulling the plug on the priciest way to buy the Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC. The Track Pack Special Edition is gone for 2027, and it was the most exclusive option in the lineup. For buyers chasing rarity, the decision changes what ownership actually means.
Ford Mustang Dark Horse Sheds Extras
The Special Edition added $31,980 to the bill and delivered a serious visual and mechanical statement. Buyers received a black-painted roof, Race Red Brembo calipers for the carbon-ceramic brakes, and carbon-fibre exterior parts. It sat in a similar spirit to the Ford Mustang GTD, where track intent came first and showroom flash came second.
Inside, Solar Red Recaro seats, red-striped belts, and titanium paddle shifters completed the look. Serialized dashboard badging made each car feel numbered. Even so, the restrictions were tight. The package could not be paired with the Teal Accent Package, and the black roof only worked with Oxford White paint. For the Ford Mustang Dark Horse, that rulebook narrowed the buyer pool considerably.

Where The Premium Money Went
With the Special Edition gone, the base 2027 car starts at $108,485. The regular Track Pack version now sits at $144,985. Previously, a fully equipped Special Edition pushed the total to $175,965, which placed it deep in exotic territory.
On paper, the gap between those numbers looks like a clean ladder. In reality, it shows how quickly option stacking can make a muscle car feel unaffordable. Ultimately, Ford appears to have decided that a cleaner order sheet is worth more than one ultra-premium niche.
Fewer Options, Steeper Reality Check
Removing one option simplifies production planning and dealer ordering. Fewer restrictions mean fewer conflicts between paint, roof, and accent packages. Meanwhile, the company keeps the core Dark Horse SC intact, which protects its performance image without chasing extreme pricing.
The Business Case Behind the Cut
Pricing a Mustang near $175,000 tests the patience of even dedicated enthusiasts. Ford’s current performance lineup details are available at Ford, and the trim structure now looks noticeably tighter. Expect the discontinued Special Edition to become a sought-after used car. Its serialized badging and limited output should lift collector interest over time, especially for buyers who missed the original window.
Auto News Magazine will continue tracking how the Dark Horse SC lineup evolves through the 2027 model year.
